Life Sucks...to put it mildly

If you have been following what is happening to my family right now, you know that the end of last year and the beginning of this year hasn't gone so well. Well now something else happened...I cry every time I think of him. I got a call yesterday that my dog (a chocolate Lab), Buddy, was hit by a car. He had gotten out of the yard and went to my daughter getting the mail and he was so happy to see her that he got into the road. Well it happened so fast. It was hard news to get and even harder for my daughter to have to tell me. I call Buddy my dog because he took to me and because Butter worked out of town I had him stay in the house with us. I will post a picture of this beautiful, happy, loving pal as soon as I can. Until then I keep asking myself if I can handle any more tragedy?

Butter looks a little crazy in this picture but he just got a shower and dressed.

I hadn't combed his hair yet and it is the longest it has even been in a long time.

He is smiling!

He was so HAPPY to be out of the bed and be able to sit up in the wheelchair

before he headed to physical therapy.

He is doing great and working hard.

He still isn't talking much...just a word or two, mainly "ouch".

I am truly thankful what he has done so far and I know that he has been blessed

by a loving Heavenly Father.

Again, thank you for all your prayers!

Just some more news about Butter. First I thought that I

should put a picture of him up. He still is a cutie but he has lost

a lot of weight...at least 20 pounds. Not the best way to loss weight.

Anyhow I have some great news...today he started to say some words!!!!

His first word to me was "why". By the time it was 8pm

he had put a couple of words together. :-D

I am so happy to hear his voice.

I can't tell you how blessed our family has been!

We are truly thankful for all the prayers that have been said in our behalf.

And I am truly thankful for a loving and kind Heavenly Father!

I just want to give you an update on Butter. He is more awake and stable. Our next step is hopefully rehab, which we should now if he will be going to it next week. He isn't talking and can't move unless he has help from the physiscal therapist. He still has a long way to go but I know that he is a fighter! Some good news is that he seems to know who I am and who his children are. Until later when I can find time I be writting again.

I just want to let you know that on Christmas eve my Mother fell and fractured her back...so I have been dealing with that. She is doing well now. And to top this off my husband. Butter, was in a car accident on the 13th of Jan. He us now in the ICU and has been there since the 13th. I am thankful that he survived the accident and I can not tell you how much I am thankful for all the prayers and support that we have received. I don't know when I'll be back but I do ask of you that follow my blog that you too, will prayer for Butter. thank you again....

I have added a link so you can see the newspaper photo. And for the record Butter doesn't drink alcohol and never has.

I have missed you so much this summer!

It is so good to be back.

I thought I would show you some of what I have been doing while

I wasn't blogging...that is beside working in the garden, doing my household chores,

and playing with grandbabies...

Just one of the things I did was to sew a couple of aprons,

I still have four more to sew up

I have to make time to finish the rest.

I did get a cold and the best part of being sick was I was finally able to go visit

My Desert Cottage

and see all the...what was it... 300 blogs

who joined,

I was so inspired!!!!!

So after I was feeling better, I went to work on my creative space.

Yes, I know that it is way to late for the party but I want to share

how my studio looks after ~~three~~ four days of doing nothing but cleaning out

and reorganizing it.

This is my "tool" box that holds everything from paper to embrodiery floss.

I LOVE IT! It was a anniversary gift from my husband, Butter.

One of the best gifts I have ever recieved. That tote on top of it is holding shredded paper

for any future paper mache' projects.

This is half of my table (which Butter build). The spice rack holds my beads...

it took me forever to separate them by color. My daughter came in when I was doing that

and I looked at her and said, "I know I'm crazy." She just smiled and said' "but it looks so pretty!"

This is the other half of the table. The little lamp is going to have a post about it soon.

It didn't look at all like that to begin with, you'll see.

This is one side of the room, yes it is a small space but it is so nice to have a place

of my own. Above the cupboards are some of my art work. I took off the last cupboards door

and decoupage pages from a couple of old books to the inside covering the back-sides-bottom-top.

I have my glass jars, new and old, ~~more stuff just waiting to be used~~ to be made into art.

The old rocker (which I have started to remove the fabric) will

be painted a creamy white (as will the cupboards) and recovered in a black toile.

This is the other side...I still have to replace the iron curtain rod with a tree limb and add

black gingham curtains to the closet but for now it isn't bad to look at.

(those plastic bags, in the bottom of the closet, are waiting to be recycled into totes)

You should have seen it before! As I was cleaning it out I had so much stuff that it covered

the studio floor completely! Now I can find just what I need and not kill myself to get it. My idea board is an old window panel, which I painted black, added foam core, batting and fabric...

I think it turned out well. The little cupboard on the floor needs to be worked on still: a new top, legs and paint...it holds my paints. Behind the door is my lap quilt frame and embroidery frame, an art easel for grandbabies and if you look real close you will see some red sock/slippers hanging up for when my feet get cold! (I have add an area rug)

Sorry that I haven't been around, I have been in my garden.

But I thought that I would share something that happened yesterday.

We went to a BBQ at my daughter's home and got to spend some fun time with her family.

As we were finishing up eating, my daughter asked if that was a storm coming. It looked like it so we headed home but I did stop at the store to pick-up some little things we were out of. My other daughter (she was going back to a meeting in town) called to let me know that someone was stopping by the house around 8:00. It was about a quarter to and so I headed home to be there. I was in my truck and the wind was pushing me around like no other. I felt sorry for the little car that was behind me because it really must have been going all over. I remember thinking as I went through the curve and could see our home..."good the trees are still standing." We have some huge cottonwoods.

I pulled in the driveway to see this...

that pile of stuff to the left of the picture is where the silo should be, not on top of the corral fence. And that trailer was behind the silo and now is on top of the baler. I called Butter (my husband) to tell him about what ever it was got the silo and trailer but left the dog kennel box where it was along with the 4-wheeler and it's trailer...and some other items.

He asked if there was any thing else damage and

I turn to the house to see this...

We (Butter) had just finished to wrap around porch and was putting on the gutters. We were planning on painting the house and porch this weekend. But...

that will have to wait.

I have to say that it just got the corner of the porch
but I cried anyhow.

My little damage is nothing and I mean nothing compared to those families that have lost family members and all that they have owned. And it made me stop and think of those families that are trying to put their lives back together.
I am ashamed that I cried.

My heart-felt prayers go out to those families.

ps. no one was at home when this happened in that 15-20 minutes and all our animals were okay.

The eggs I make last year...

the nests are this year's Easter project.

I love how they turned out.

They were so easy to make and you can find the instructions in the

April 2011 issue of "Country Living" on page 53.

When I saw them in the "Idea Notebook" section of the magazine,

I knew I had to make some.

So I gave Butter a call and asked if he could bring me some shredded paper home.

And did he!

I have enough shredder paper to make at least a

thousand+ nest.

Now I just have to get more glue, a lot more!

Class Symbols...

I wanted to make the class symbols of the

Young Women classes for Church. (for a special program)

They are made out of paper

and I am very happy how they turned out.

They are a beehive, rose, and laurel wreath...

Beehive class: "the beehive was a symbol of harmony, cooperation, and work for the early pioneers of the Church. Beehive was also the first name by which young women were known, beehives today learn to work together in cooperation and harmony as they strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and prepare to stand for truth and righteousness. This is a time to 'arise and shine forth'."

Mia Maid class: "The name Mia Maid refers historically to the Mutual Improvement Association, which adopted the emblem of the rose as a symbol of love, faith, and purity. Mia Maid today learn about love,faith, and purity as they strengthen their testimony and accept and act upon the Young women values."

Laurel class: "For centuries the laurel wreath has been a crown woven from the leaves of the laurel tree. It is given to someone who has finishes a significant achievement as a symbol of honor and accomplishment. Laurels today are finishing their preparation to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the temple."

It is never to late for pumpkins.

I made mine following the information

from

Craftberry Bush: Fall in love with Fall

I did some things different, like...

fold every other page of the book in half.

I wanted my pumpkin to be plump.

Can you see the folded pages?

I, also, made the vine out of wire that I covered with white florist tape.

Then I wrapped it around a pencil to make it curly.

A little pull to loosen it up after wrapping it around the stem.

And I didn't tea stain the edges for now but I might do it later on...

right now I like how it looks.

Now, to make so more for my Thanksgiving table!

I made three different size patterns

by following her instructions.

They were easy to make, esp. the stem!

My pumpkins don't look as plump as hers

I love the altered "spell" book in the movie "Practical Magic".

I wanted to create one for Halloween

so this is what I came up with....

I used "spell words" from the Harry Potter series.

The first "spell" is to change an item into a bird.

The second it to conjure up a bouquet of flowers.

I also made some potions...

(again using Harry Potter)

and a "Marauders Map"

I love the smell of cinnamon or pumpkin pie candles.

I use them year round.

But,

what do you do with all your old candle wax?

Don't throw it away!

Melt it down in a double boiler.

On a low temperature and stay by it at all times while you have it on the heat.

You don't want any thing bad to happen like a fire.

So, what if you are like me and can't pass up a pine cone.

I have a big box of them, to be made into wreaths, garland, or whatever.

I have to say that I have a lot...

I just asked my daughter how many pine cones she thought I had...she said "1000."

She probably ~~exaggerated~~ is right.

Now.

After all the wax is melted...

Dip in the pine cone to cover.

Be careful because the wax is hot, I used tongs to

add, turn and take out the pine cone.

I laid down some newspaper for them to set on while

I make more.

I believe that I dipped about 70 + pine cones.

I gave some away and

place the rest all around my home in baskets and bowl.

I just love how they bring that Autumn fragrance to my home.

I have been blessed to have my

very own space in our home.

(it is the first time in the 30+ years that I have been married to have my own spot!)

We have been in this home for a year now...how time passes.

When we where looking for a home, on my wish list,

was a place for me...

a studio, where I could create and close the door.

(so I didn't have to clean up!)

Well this home had a room that I could use just for that purpose!!!

I thought that I would share with you this space...

The cupboards are from my other home's kitchen

(we kept them when we remodeled).

They and the walls still need to be painted

and so does the floors.

But I am happy with the space for now.

For my birthday,one year, my husband got me this

huge tool box, that I had requested.

It is the best thing for a mixed media artist to have because all of those this and that's

fit in the drawers and keeps it organized.

I LOVE IT!

I use a plate hanger to hold magazines.

Baskets to hold more of this and that's.

Suitcases (that I want to paint white)

hold the things for my textile art.

I found this old tool box at a yard sale, painted it and filled it with the things that I use the most.

I saw this idea some where?

So when I saw this old spice rack at a yard sale for $1..

I grab it..

painted the rack...

wash the jars and removed the 70's labels...

then started to fill them with beads, buttons, and what ever would fit in them...

I still have a couple a jars to fill up still.

I want to share this space because in my last post I said that I wanted to make some changes to my blogs. Here at Anna Clo't and Me, I want to concentrate on my art. I have set a goal to create something each week. It feels like that since we have moved into this home that I haven't been doing what I love to do and that is to create.

I have been thinking that I am going to change up my blogs a little....I'm still in the idea stage. Nothing to different , just a little moving around. I will be up dating my blogs soon. Right now I am in the middle of harvest time; so I'm canning and freezing all the goodies from my garden. My pantry is filling up! I thought I would share what happen yesterday...

while I was outside taking care of the chickens and puppies.

This storm hit so fast, I was running around

(getting soaked!)

making sure all the animals were safe

(warm and dry, too).

I wasn't paying to much attention to

what was happening around me.

I got back to the house and

the table, chairs and bbq. were like this.

Good news...all the animals are just fine

and the glass from the table is not broken.

I thought that I would share some of my eggs; yes they are made from those cheap, plastic eggs. I have been covering them for a couple of years now...usually with brown paper bags that are torn into small pieces, then I paint them to look like chicken or quail eggs.(can you tell in the picture above?) This year, as I have been visiting other blogs, I have seen the plastic eggs covered with words. So I made my own and loved how they turned out...

I wanted to share this little centerpiece.

That I put together in no time.

It is made of Baby's Breath...

Little, green, ginger ale bottles...
and a canning jar basket

I thought it turned out to be a cute centerpiece
for St. Patrick's Day.

Yes, those ugly blinds are still up.

I might put ribbons around the bottle tops...

This is a hutch that Butter built,

it started out to hold a tv.
But after the doors where removed and shelves added...
I love how it turned out.
I have painted the walls (finally!)
Butter was not happy that I picked out such a

dark brown,
I assured him that it wouldn't make the room to dark.
The bottom 1/2 of the wall, you see, is a bright white
and the two windows, that are to the sides,

are huge picture windows.
So we get lots and lots of natural lighting.
Now I just have to get rid of those

old, broken, vertical blinds (ugly!)

I have 4 geese decoy on the top of the hutch...

the girls(that's what I call them) where happy

I painted it too,

It makes them look good.

This is what the bath looked like (this is before we moved into it).

I need to tell you that this picture doesn't do the peachy-orange color justice!

You have to use your imagination and think

brighter,

oranger,

uglier!

I can't even think of a color of something that comes close to help you out.

:-(

But after a painting and updating...

We had this old dresser and that became our vanity.

(whoops, you can still see a little of the orange,

I couldn't reach behind there so we have to unhook the plumbing and move it,

so I can finish painting)

The mirror is old, as you can see, so we are now in the

debate of leaving it and getting one of those that stands on the vanity

or just go ahead and replace the mirror.

The light fixture was changed too!

I don't have a picture of the before

but it was one of those all in one mirrors and lights

(the lights were those big round bulbs)

It looks so much better!

The bathroom is a nice size,

so right now I have this small table by the tub.

I hope to find an old dressing table to fit there.

The cupboard you see was that outdated oak.

(it looked like what the old vanity looked like)

But now it is nice and white and doesn't stand out,

just blends in with the walls.

I still have to do some finishing touches:

a curtain (the window is high so no one could see in),

trim around the doors,

the baseboard trim,

art (the walls are bare!)

So how do you like it?

The Changes

As you can see the carpet is gone,

and changes are beginning to happen!

The doors are no longer this...

But are now these,

all the up stairs doors look so great!

This is the work in progress.

But just wait until you see
what it looks like now!

Yes the blue stuff is gone!

But the new stuff is on back order!

So no new carpet in time for Thanksgiving

But Guess What!!!

It isn't hard to believe...

like I know Butter!

I get to paint the stair railing!!!

We also won't be able to log side our home.

So it will be getting a nice repaint job...

I'm thinking a nice red!

Gone is the blue carpet

These are our steps!

With the not so nice blue carpet!

Well the blue is gone!!!!

We should be getting that new carpet installed

before Thanksgiving.

I still have to paint,

I'm decided on the colors for the whole house now.

I would really love to paint the railings

but Butter isn't to keen on that idea.

I would really like to get rid of them

and replace them with something that would give the house

a more custom...updated look.

Maybe it will come to happen,

I didn't say anything about replacing the Kitchen faucet

(which needed to be because you got a shower each time you used it)

and Butter fixed that problem right away,

thank goodness!

I will be showing more pictures as we begin to remodel.

The Patch

We are settling into our home,

and very tired because of all the work that we are doing!

Sorry that I have been gone for so long...

I have missed being able to blog!

I have packed everything but the things that we use

every day so my home now is just a house.

But soon I will be settled in our new to us home

Today I thought that I would share some of my art.

It is nothing,

but just fun to do

I like how it looks.

Do your remember folding the pages of a

"Reader's Digest"

to make Christmas trees?

Well this is about the same thing only I made book sculptures.

The patterns came from Mary Engelgreit's "Home Companion"
(Sorry, I don't remember which issue)
Fun and Easy!

I found the books at the second hand store.

Making sure that they were the same size and thickness.

Then started to fold the pages to get the patterns shown.

Lastly, painted the covers, inside and out.

Just under those is,

this is a piece that I am still working on...

I still have to add a lot more to it,
flowers mainly
(I think, anyhow)

On her pocket it is a quote from

• Life expectancy about 20 years• Weight: 20-25 pounds• Migration is a learned process• Migratory geese flight range 2 – 3 thousand miles• Resident geese flight range: 100 –200 miles to find food, water, and safety.• Resident geese can fly long distances as their migratory cousins, but generally have learned that it is not necessary.• Migratory geese do not become resident geese unless they are injured.• Mating season: February to March• Geese mate for life and will stay together during all seasons.• Geese will find a new mate if mate dies or is killed.• Migratory geese nest in Canada.• Geese nesting in the U.S. are "resident" geese who were born here.• Nesting Season: Mid March to mid May• Age of geese when they begin to nest: 3 years• Geese return to the general area of their birth each year to mate and nest. I have a dilemma.

Butter went to an auction and picked up a few things.

He did get some great deals.

But to my surprise he bought a 50s typewriter desk.

Not at all my style!

So now I have to figure out if I can make it work in my home.

It is solid oak and in great shape.

(It is now in storage, just waiting for a make over)

It is a big piece so I had to take picture of it in sections.

This is the top middle.

This is one side.

The bottom of that same side.

The bottom middle, the black is the desk top, it folds down (shown).

This is my try of getting the whole thing in a picture.
That school desk in the shot is other item that Butter got,
he paid five dollars for that.

The typewriter desk he paid only $15.
He did get some great deals like I said.

So if anyone has any idea how I can make this look more country,
please share!

Last weekend we, Butter and myself,

went to visit our daughter

and her family.

On the way there we hit a storm,

which is usual this year

since all it seems to be doing is raining.

I was looking out the window and I said,

"Is that a tornado?"

Butter replied,

"I think so."

We slowed down and watched...

it was a tornado forming,

which is something that isn't common here at all!

We watched.

It wasn't too far from us.

It was a foot or so from touching the ground.

Then it dawned on me...

GET THE CAMERA!

I did and began to video as it was breaking up.

I thought that I would share it today even though its the end of it.
